The Hippie
The youth subculture of the Hippies was established in the 1960s. Hippies developed their own distinctive lifestyle after they often felt alienated from the middle-class society, which they saw as being materialistic and dominated by repression. The Hippies favoured long hair and casual, often unconventional, dress, sometimes in 'psychedelic' colours. Both men and women wore sandals, beads and rimless granny glasses. Many men grew beards. They commonly took up communal or cooperative living arrangements. They also adopted vegetarian based diets and practiced holistic medicine. They support the ‘free look’ which focused on not what others thought of their self-expression through their clothes, but believing in equality for all and protesting against social evils.
I have put together my interpretation of a Hippie look below.
